DPG Sim
A tycoon game that gives players control over a small company willing to make Digital Public Good.
DPG Sim is a digital public good (DPG) in itself. It is free and open source.
Developed by GameLab KBTU as part of the DPG Lab educational program, in collaboration with KBTU and UNICEF.
What’s a Digital Public Good?
DPG Simulator challenges players to manage a team, balance finances, people, through obstacles and tough decisions, all while staying true to your mission — creating digital tools that serve the public interest. But there’s a catch: you need to stay afloat and avoid bankruptcy. Sounds fun, right?
In the physical world, public goods like roads, parks, and libraries serve the common good. DPGs work in a similar way, but they live in the digital realm: think open-source code, accessible data, and tools that support global progress, especially in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
DPG Sim itself is a Digital Public Good, so it's fully free and open-source. You can dive right in, explore the code, and even contribute! Whether it’s fixing bugs, translating the game into more languages, or adding new scenarios, we welcome all kinds of support.
You can contribute to the game without programming skills. The scripting and adding content system has been designed so that everything is intuitively simple and easy to understand.
To start contributing, visit our GitHub repository. If you’re familiar with Godot (v3.5.3), the game’s development platform, you can work on game files directly.
